Affordable housing
The Blind Center of Nevada recently purchased 4.5 acres on the same property block as current Headquarters. The Blind Center has the goal to build a 100-unit affordable housing to better serve the needs of its members. The state of Nevada has the lowest number of Affordable Houses, and 90% of Blind Center members live below the low-income level.
The current living conditions for too many of the members of the Blind Community are unsafe and, or unhealthy.
The Blind Center of Nevada is working with local governments, the state government, and local donors to acquire funds to build this facility that will allow us to help solve one of the biggest needs in our community. The goal is to build a 100 unit affordable housing complex for those who are blind and visually impaired in our community.

More than 70% of those who are blind and visually impaired are unemployed and rely solely on social security disability payments of $1,000 or less per month.
The 2022 fair market rent is $1,005 for a one bedroom apartment in our community. This is higher than 95% of other FMR areas, which makes fair market rentals not an option for most who are blind
