Blind Center Receives Generous Gift From Nevada Energy

Tony Sanchez, Senior Vice President at Nevada Energy, presented Lloyd Benson, Blind Center of Nevada Chairman of the Board a check for $364,800 to pay in full for 2 solar panel arrays which will provide “homemade” electrical power to the Blind Center for decades to come.   This is expected to save the Blind Center of Nevada about $1,500 a month in energy costs.  ”That money makes a huge difference to a non-profit that watches every dime.  Those monthly savings can, for example,  pay for transportation to and from teh center each day for a large number of our members,” said Ronnie Wilson, Blind Center’s Executive Director.

“During some months the panels will generate more electricity than the Blind Center will consume”, says Blind Center President Cory Nelson.  ”During those times electric meter will actually run backwards generating credits that will be utilized during days when we consume more energy than we produce–periods such as the hot days in July and August when the AC’s are working overtime.”

The two arrays which consist of a whopping 298 panels cover about 9,000 square feet not only generate energy, but also create both a bus stop for Blind Center members and a shaded area under which the Blind Center team can process electronic waste it processes in it’s commercial and residential e-waste recycling business.

Members, BCN Team and Nevada Energy Representatives gather under the new bus stop.
